An offline-first system that turns community volunteers into a live data source for births that the national registry was never reaching — closing the gap between a home birth in a remote ward and an official record.
Across rural Nigeria a huge share of births happen at home, far from any government office — leaving millions of children invisible to the registry. The community volunteers meant to capture them often have no reliable internet, no technical training, and only basic phones.
We built a lightweight mobile app simple enough for any frontline volunteer, that works fully offline. It captures the birth location automatically and walks the volunteer through a short four-step form. The moment a signal appears it quietly syncs to the national system, where the local registrar sees the alert on their own map and confirms the birth with the family.
CBAS gives frontline volunteers a phone app simple enough to use anywhere, online or off, and gives registrars a live map of every birth alert waiting to be confirmed — feeding new, ground-truth data straight into the national system.
